Kent and I have enjoyed following the University of Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball team for the last seven years. It has been fun living in Iowa City and witnessing the spectacular rise of Caitlin Clark and women's basketball. To me, their journey represents the potential of young women pursuing their passions. It’s exhilarating to envision a world where such pursuits are not just dreams but tangible realities! It feels like this is the world we are creating now.
“Sailing Alone Around the World” by Joshua Slocum
Joshua Slocum was the first person to sail around the world alone, and he wrote a memoir about his journey called Sailing Alone Around the World. The memoir was published in 1900 and became an international best-seller. Slocum completed his three-year solo circumnavigation in 1898 sailing his 37-foot sloop, the Spray, for more than 46,000 …

Books + Boats!
I realized recently that we now have a small collection of sailing books! Some of the books we posessed before we ever went sailing, some we bought so we could educate ourselves, one was a prize, and some were gifts! All of them add to our enjoyment of learning to sail. Here is a list …
Sailing Yacht Florence
A British couple, Matt and Amy, set off in 2016 to sail around the world on their 37 foot monohull, Florence. Their entire journey is documented on YouTube. They land exactly where they started in Coverack in southern England, where they're greeted by familiar landscapes, fans, friends, and family.

As Kent and I prepare for sailing in our retirement, we’re setting ourselves a significant goal: We have one decade to transform ourselves into sailors - individuals who are able to harness the wind to navigate the waters, solve unexpected problems, and adapt to the unpredictable nature of life at sea. We're actively pursuing it …

Sailing School Part I
We are approaching the one year anniversary of our Offshore Sailing School adventure where we spent 8 days learning to sail. It remains one of the most exciting things Kent and I have ever done! Thought I'd put together a little write-up of the series of events. Here is how it went: One good thing …
A New Year, A New Sailing Glossary!
Sailing is confusing, this we know. There are so many words and phrases specific to sailing, and they can vary depending on the type of boat, the rigging, the wind, and the water conditions, etc. Sometimes it feels like a different language. So, I have something to share with you! I just added a new …
